Through photographing the marking traces of human constructure such as dams and high-ways in nature, Japanese photographer Toshio Shibata's work has been called the newest form of contemporary landscape photography. The black and white geological faces was cut geometrically by civilization, capturing the transition of environment, exploring the conflicted and harmonized relationship between man-made landscape and nature. Winning much praise internationally by its Japanese aesthetic, the works were created by large format camera, then printed with gelatin silver on baryta paper. His work has been collected by major museums including Metropolitan Museum of Art.
